We help people with disabilities
The STAR Center provides services for education, employment, and independence for all ages and needs in West Tennessee and beyond.
We will help a child communicate, help a person get their first job, and help the elderly stay in their homes.
We are dedicated to helping people with disabilities make their dreams a reality.
Overview of the STAR Center
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 1988 and provide services to people with disabilities of all ages and needs.
Our 33,000 sq. ft. headquarters is located in the city of Jackson, Tennessee between Memphis and Nashville. We have a staff of over 110, many of whom provide services off-site. Our primary service area is the 21 counties of West Tennessee, but we provide Assistive Technology services in all 95 counties in Tennessee. On an annual basis we serve approximately 4,000 individuals with disabilities or other special needs.

Our Mission
The mission of the STAR Center is to help any person with any disability to realize their potential.
Our mission gives us a constant and shared purpose. It guides us on every decision we make, large and small. It is the reason we were started, the reason we exist today, and it is the reason that we will continue tomorrow.
It is intended to be spoken aloud in the form of “any person – with any disability – to realize their potential!”

Vision Statement
The STAR Center’s vision is to realize our own potential so that we may best serve others.
Our vision is one of constant improvement, always keeping in mind that we exist to help others. We are driven to find ways to better our services, our technology, and our people and expand to where there is a need.
Our vision is intended for our leadership and staff, but it also holds us to high standards to the public that we serve.

Core Values
Our Core Values are Dignity, Individualized Solutions, Compassion, and Technology.
We believe:
- All people are worthy of value and ethical, excellent treatment.
- People should be treated as individuals with individual needs.
- In offering our services regardless of the ability to pay.
- In a passion for technology and its ability to change lives.

Our Motto
Education, Employment, Independence
These are the guiding principles for how we help people with disabilities realize their potential.
Our services are not an end in themselves, but rather a means to an end. We believe in the lifelong value of education, the dignity of employment, and the self-esteem one finds in independence. We serve others with the purpose of helping them find individualized success in these areas.
