Vision Services

Over 200,000 Tennesseans are legally blind, with the number growing as people age. The STAR Center offers a broad variety of services for people with visual impairments, including:
  • Safe and effective travel. (Orientation and Mobility)
  • Optometry sessions for low vision and legal blindness.
  • Magnifiers and talking devices for reading.
  • Screen readers for computer and smartphone access.

Applying for our Vision Services typically begins with an eye doctor’s referral to our agency. If you or a loved one are in need of our services, let us know and we will help.

Christie Elliott

MA, COMS, CATIS

Christie joined the STAR Center staff in 2005. She earned a Master of Arts in Rehabilitation of the Blind in 2015 and earned a Graduate Certificate in Assistive Technology in 2022. She is both a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS) and a Certified Assistive Technology Instructional Specialist (CATIS) for individuals with visual impairments. Christie enjoys helping people find tools to realize their full potential and increase independence in their daily lives.
