Happy Monday! I don’t know how many of you knew this, but there was a special day last week. Wednesday was National Mail Order Catalog Day. Good night! Everybody has a day, don’t they?
I, it’s just exhausting but when I thought about the National Mail Order Catalog Day, I thought you know there’s a lesson there. The question that I would love to ask those people who are still sending those giant catalogs is… How much longer are you going to be able to live in the past?
It’s kind of like phone books, you know? Phone books used to be the thing that everybody had at their home and in their desk. And when phone books are delivered to our offices now nobody ever wants them. Why? Because we found another way.
We found a different way and so when I heard that it was national mail order catalog day I thought, “Oh my gosh. They’re still clinging to that thing that got them to where they are, but they have yet to realize that… that is not the thing that’s going to get them to where they want to go.”
If COVID-19 has taught us anything, we cannot cling to the ways of doing business from yesterday and expect those ways of doing business to translate into today. So what is it that you’re clinging to? Certainly, a question that The STAR Center is asking ourselves because we are committed to standing in that gap for those with disabilities.
And we know to do that we have to stay up on all of the technology that’s coming all of the different ways. Because what’s the goal? Is the goal to serve those with disabilities the way that we’re comfortable or is the goal to serve those with disabilities in the way that makes the most impact in their life?
Of course it’s option two and to do that we’ve got to stay agile. So, I hope you celebrated last Wednesday with all of the National Mail Order Catalog companies and purchased something out of their catalog. If not, hey maybe go find it on the internet.
Hope you have a great week!
